The Great Dread

So, I had been planning on just cutting my hair into a pixie cut before the move to China because the weather there is humid and rainy and I didn't want to have to fight with my naturally curly frizzy hair. However it occurred to me a few weeks ago that I could possibly do dreadlocks, maintaining the length of my hair but without the curly/frizzy threat. So last week I test-drove some temporary dreads and I liked them enough, so I approached my wonderful creative hairdresser Maranda about giving me dreads and she was quite keen on the idea and we set an appointment. Today was that day. I am now the proud owner of a head of well back-combed dreads. Maranda did a fabulous job. Not gonna lie though, it hurt, seriously hurt.
Currently there is a Side-Show Bob effect, the dreads take a little time to settle - and until then I'm going to be sporting some bandanas to control the madness.

Fourteen days left until I move to China.
It is difficult to believe.
I received my visa last week and my ticket is bought.
I received my new luggage yesterday from UPS.
Right now I'm up in the air about whether to bring all my camping gear with me. In general I want to bring it, but I have this sinking feeling that I'll have the best intentions, but never actually use it.
I'm moving to a city called Shenzhen, it is situated right on the border with Hong Kong and is growing much faster than Hong Kong. It is a city of about 8.5 million people.
I'm going to work at my Mom's English School that she started last year and study Mandarin at Shenzhen University starting in Fall 2010. I'm also hoping for an internship in Hong Kong during the summer.
Either way, I've got a list of adventures planned, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
